Tessa LeBaron and Johnny Joo present Emergence, a collaborative body of work that includes painting, photography, and stop motion video. Together the two artists showcase artwork that reflects the inner turmoil and emotional landscape of oneself emerging out of the ebb and flow of depression. They explore themes of confinement, isolation, and emotional weight of being trapped in one’s own feelings while manifesting out of the haze. These various mediums challenge the senses by channeling the complex behaviors and the extraordinary act of metamorphosis that occurs in emergence.
Tessa LeBaron’s illustrative acrylic paintings, timeless stop motion videos, and Johnny Joo’s themes of reclamation and urban decay photography emphasize the essence of emergence in this body of work. Both Tessa and Johnny have known each other for over a decade now. This is their first show together in seven years.
